Zone Shift — Frames Exclusive

Zone Shift is unique to FRAMES among the two instruments. It exploits multi-sampling to achieve timbral changes without changing perceived pitch — a technique only possible with multi-sampled sources.

Zone Shift Parameters
Zone Shift
At 0: expected sample plays for incoming MIDI note. Positive values: samples for lower notes are pitched up to match incoming MIDI — brighter timbres, faster movement. Negative values: samples for higher notes are pitched down — darker timbres, slower movement.
Zone Shift Mod
Controls how much Zone Shift changes per incoming note. Source: random per keypress (constant variation) or velocity (playable timbral control).

Envelopes — Frames-Specific Features

Additional Envelope Controls
Start Offset
Offsets start point of Sound Source up to 4 seconds. Not available for Wave sources.
Cascade
Delays second layer in milliseconds or synced amount. Combined with Ensemble Cascade creates call-and-response effects.
Link
Link or unlink envelopes of both layers for independent control.
Amount
For Pitch and Filter envelopes, sets the amount of envelope applied.
ADSR
Standard Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release for Amp, Filter, and Pitch.
Release Trigger
Available on some Sound Sources. Activates release sample triggering on note-off. Increases CPU usage. Level control for boost or subtlety.
Glide — Intensity
Range of pitch modulation from glide. Mode I for subtle organic glides; Mode IV for dramatic processed sounds.
Glide — Time
Time to glide across the range set by Intensity.
Filter section also includes a Rumble control (FRAMES only): a High Pass filter that removes rumble below the fundamental of the incoming MIDI note.

Snapshots

Snapshots are Frames's preset system, organized in three categories:

Snapshot Categories
Highlights
Selected snapshots showcasing the full breadth of Frames's capabilities.
Designed
Unique snapshots making full use of all features — more processed and designed sounds.
Foundations
Focused snapshots capturing the natural character of each Sound Source with minimal processing.
Access snapshots via the Down Arrow next to the Snapshot Name. If snapshots are not visible, click the Snapshot Icon in Kontakt.
Mod Wheel tip: All factory snapshots have CC1 mapped to multiple performance controls. Use a mod wheel or automate CC1 in Cubase to add dynamics and movement to any snapshot.

Main Page — 8 Performance Controls

Performance Controls (top row)
1 — Dynamic
Controls pre-filter volume/intensity of the sound.
2 — Filter
Controls cutoff frequency of both layers' filters.
3 — Motion
Controls intensity of the LFO modulations. At 0% no modulation; at 100% full values set on Motion page apply.
4 — Ensemble
Controls volume of additional voices — creates thickness, harmony, and rhythmic effects.
5 — LOFI
Controls amount of the customisable lofi effect chain.
6 — Character
Blends between dry signal and the parallel Character FX chain.
7 — Space
Controls send level to delay and reverb effects. Dips dry signal to preserve effect tails.
8 — Morph
Mixes the two Sound Sources according to the selected Fade Style.
Bottom Row Controls
Sound Source (x2)
Two slots to assign Sound Sources from the library.
Envelope button
Opens the Envelope menu for Amp, Filter, Pitch, and Glide ADSR controls.
Fade Style
Controls how Morph blends layers: Crossfade (smooth blend) or Add (one source added over the other).
Pitch controls
See Pitch section below.
Click below any Performance Control to expand it for deeper parameters.

Pitch Controls

Pitch Modes
Note Pitch
Changes incoming MIDI note pitch. Allows realistic harmony by transposing the source.
Sample Pitch
Creative pitch manipulation and fine tuning of the sample playback rate.

Dynamic Section

Dynamic Parameters
Dampening
Adds filtering when Dynamic is lowered, creating a more realistic and dramatic sense of dynamics.
Velocity
Controls how much velocity affects dynamics. Dampening also applies via velocity when active.
Sound Stage
Volume and pan control for each layer independently, for defined placement within the mix.
Spread
Stereo offset applied with each new note to create width.
Spread Mode
When active, layers are panned to opposite sides per single note for greater per-note width.

Filter Section

Each layer has an independent filter. The Filter performance control sets the cutoff for both layers simultaneously. Individual filter settings allow for cross-filter sound design.

Filter Parameters
Bypass
Enable/disable filter per layer independently.
Filter Type
Low Pass, Band Pass, or High Pass per layer.
Resonance
Resonance amount for both layers' filters.
Spacing
Offsets layer 2's cutoff from layer 1's value set by the Filter control. Positive = layer 2 higher; negative = layer 2 lower. At 0% both layers share cutoff.
Keytrack
Amount cutoff follows incoming MIDI note pitch.

Motion Section (LFO)

Two interlinked LFOs modulating Amp, Pitch, Filter Cutoff, and Pan of both layers. The Motion performance control scales LFO output from 0% (no modulation) to 100% (full values set on the Motion page).

Motion Parameters
Retrigger
Controls whether LFO retriggers with each new note or runs freely.
Amount & Rate Modulation
Controls how much LFO1 affects the intensity and rate of LFO2 — creates complex interlinked modulation.
Fade
Length of time LFO takes to fade in on each note press. Only active when Retrigger is on.
LFO1 / LFO2 Output Amounts
Switch between editing LFO1 or LFO2 output amounts. Set modulation per destination: Amp, Pitch, Filter, Pan.
LFO Shape
8 waveform shapes per LFO.
Rate
LFO rate per LFO. Sync button enables synced rates up to 12 bars.

Ensemble Section

Creates two additional voices per played note for thickening, harmony, or rhythmic effects. Highly effective combined with the Cascade control in the Envelopes page.

Ensemble Parameters
Width
Panning width of Ensemble voices (offset from Sound Stage pan positions).
Detune
Detune of Ensemble voices relative to main voices. Subtle chorus to extreme abstract tension.
Active
Enable/disable Ensemble per layer. Disable to save CPU when not needed.
Note
Pitch offset of Ensemble voices from their layer. Enables instant harmonisation. Voices transpose dynamically within any set Key Range.
Cascade
Delay time for each Ensemble voice. Voices play in ping-pong pattern for width and rhythmic potential. Can sync to clock.

LOFI Section

LOFI Parameters
Noise
Constant background noise level. 4 types: tape hiss, radio static, scanned radio, RFI.
Warble
Pitch instability simulating warped tape or vinyl.
Tone
Removes low and high frequencies to recreate old analog equipment character.
Saturation
Ranges from subtle warming to destructive breakup.
